Over the years our 4th of July traditions have changed, but one thing has always stayed exactly the same. And that’s dressing up in red white and blue! Wearing patriotic colors on July 4th has always been one of my favorite & easiest ways to celebrate the day. Getting ready for a Fourth of July celebration is both fun and easy.

During my childhood, our family had a cherished tradition of going camping every year on the Fourth of July. However, after growing up and living with my husband in the San Francisco Bay Area, our way of celebrating shifted to a simpler yet equally delightful experience. We would spend the day at the waterfront, watching the 4th of july parades go by while eagerly awaiting the night for the breathtaking firework show.

No matter how you celebrate the 4th of july, the best way to show up is dressed up in fun patriotic colors. People really like that. 

Every year that I have worn a cute outfit for the Fourth of July, I received an abundance of compliments. Dressing up for the occasion not only brings me joy, but it also instills a sense of belonging within the community. It's truly an amazing feeling.

What should I wear on July 4th?

When it comes to the Fourth of July, embracing all things American-inspired is truly a fab choice! Think of stars, stripes, and the classic colors of red, white, and blue. In fact, I may have just perfectly described the American flag, but that's exactly the point! 😉

The notion of dressing according to your age is basically all based on stereotypes and culture. However, style is about the ability to express yourself through fashion and wearing what makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Choosing the right beach outfit can be a fun and exciting experience, but it can also be overwhelming with so many options available. From stylish swimsuits to comfortable cover-ups, there are many factors to consider when picking out your perfect beach outfit.

 

A good beach outfit is a necessity when visiting the beach. Especially if you want to look good and feel good.  

I have done the hard work and made the perfect beach outfit collection to meet all of you beach outfit needs.

I am also going to answer a few questions on what to wear to the beach and for different types of weather, situations and occasion. If you have ever been to the beach before, especially on the pacific west coast, you know it can vary between being chilly, overcast, windy or hot. 

I grew up in California and spent most summers, holidays and lazy days at the beach. I can tell you now that I definitely didn’t always wear just a swimsuit to the beach.

If I specifically planned on getting into the water that day then yes I would wear a swimsuit underneath my clothes. That being said, a cute and casual beach outfit is a must when hanging out at the beach. 

There are usually nice restaurants near the beach and lots of little shops to checkout. So it really depends on what your beach plans are.

Surprisingly, a lot of times the beach can be cold, windy and overcast. So you want to be prepared for this kind of weather too. Whether you plan on sun bathing, surfing or just taking a beachy stroll through the sand, I've got a collection of beach day looks that I know your going to adore. 

What outfit is best for the beach?

The best beach outfit typically includes a swimsuit and a coverup. You can wear a sundress or a kimono over a swimsuit as a coverup.

Another option is a pair of shorts and a casually cute loose fit blouse. A wide brim oversized hat and sunglasses are a must, especially on sunny beach days.

A beach bag is a fantastic accessory to carry along all of your necessities, like extra clothes, towels, water bottle and sunscreen. 

 Can I wear jeans to the beach?

The short answer is yes and no. You can definitely wear jeans to the beach, just consider the activities you plan on embarking on.

Jeans may be a good option for certain beach activities like walking on the beach, visiting a rocky beach or hanging out around a fire pit at the beach when its cold. Jeans aren’t the best options for beach activities like sunbathing, surfing or volleyball for example. 

Jeans are also a great option to wear over your swimsuit with a bikini and a loose fit top. This way you can take off your jeans as soon as you hit the sand and relax. You can put your jeans back on once your ready to get back to your car. 

When is it okay to wear jeans to the beach? 

It's important to consider the occasion and the weather. Jeans are a good option for cold beach days, beach parties, a casual walk on the beach or even beach fire pits.

Cut off jean shorts are even better, especially if its a hot day and you plan on getting your toes wet. However, you probably don’t want to actually get into the ocean water with your jeans on. 

Personally, I prefer to wear dresses, loose linen pants or skirts to the beach over my swimwear if I am having an actual beach day.

Since living near the beach my entire life, I have had several impromptu beach stops where changing wasn’t an option. On these days, we are usually driving past the water and decide to stop to eat lunch or take a stroll because the day looks nice. In a similar fashion to when you make an impromptu stop at the park with your kids because the day is just too nice to pass up the opportunity. 

Living on the northern pacific coast, the weather tends to be on the cooler side so generally jeans are a good option. If you are going to a hot beach, then you might be way too warm in a pair of jeans. So definitely keep an eye on the weather. 

If you plan on laying out in the sand, I wouldn’t recommend wearing jeans. Getting sand out of jeans is so annoying, especially if your jeans get wet. Also, if your jeans get wet, they become so heavy!

However, if the beach is very rocky, then wearing jeans may be necessary in order to protect yourself from the elements. 

If you are horseback riding on the beach then you'll definitely want to wear jeans. It really just depends on the activities you'll be pursuing. If you think you will be doing several different types of activities, then be sure to pack a change of clothes for the occasion. 

On one of my impromptu visits to the beach, my son wanted to stop at the beach and get into the water for a little boogie boarding while the tide was right.

I wasn’t dressed for the occasion, but we stopped anyway since he was all set. I ended up having to get into the water wearing jeans to grab my sons boogie board since it had gotten too far out into sea.

It felt like I was swimming with 30LBS wrapped around my legs. I definitely don't recommend getting into any body of water wearing jeans, but sometimes you just need to take care of the situation. (:

What to wear to the beach other than a bikini?

If you don't want to wear a bikini to the beach, go for a sundress. You will get the benefits of keeping comfortable and cool, while also being stylish. You can also wear your bikini under your dress so you'll be ready for anything. 

What to wear to the beach in 60 degree weather?

If you are going to the beach on a cooler day, you will want to layer up your clothing. Start with your swimsuit underneath your layers. You can wear a blouse over your swimsuit and layer it with a cardigan or sweater and complete your outfit with either a maxi skirt or pair of pants. There are alot of cute ways to style a beach outfit for 60 degree weather. 

Sometimes the beach can be cooler in the mornings and evenings and get pretty warm mid-day, so you'll just want to check the weather ahead. Just remember to pack layers and an extra change of clothes for the occasion.

I recently got this question, which can be a little open ended. However there are a few stylish tips and tricks you can easily incorporate to look super cute in a skirt. 

1. Choose a cute skirt to build your outfit around
2. Next you will want to select a top that will complement your outfit. If it's chilly go for a sweater or long sleeve, and if warm out choose something nice and cool. You just want to make sure that your overall look feels balanced and lovely. 
3. A fitted top pairs wonderfully with a loose or billowy skirt, while a tight or pencil style skirt can pair well with a loose fit blouse. You can tuck in your shirt if feels right to add extra dimention and shape to your look. 
4. Complete your look with the right shoes. Go for sanalds in the warm months and booties or loafers are a great choice in the cooler months. If you are going to a special event or a sit down dinner, heels are also a fun choice to dress up your look. 

Are Skirts Casual?

Its official! I am a soccer mom now! My son has been playing on the spring soccer team for the past couple of years now.

It's pretty exciting getting to watch your kids play. My son has played in various sports throughout the school years. He is now 12 and looking forward to a 3rd season on the soccer field.

It's one of those feelings that kind of creeps up on you when you least expect it. And then BAM! It hits you right in the face when you are in a rush, trying to get out the door for an early work meeting, or school, or a date and you are already running late. 

You just don't know what to wear, and everything in your closet feels totally BLAH! 🥴 You know what I mean? 

This is what I call having a fashion emergency.

It may seem like everything was fine before and then all of sudden it's not. Why is that??

Well, let me tell you something. There's been something in the background of your life that's been building up to this moment of  the "I hAvE nOtHinG tO wEaR!" feeling or statement. And yes, I typed it like that because that's how it feels in RL. 😉 

First, let's diagnose some reasons why you might be feeling this way and next we will get into how to fix it. 

In today's post, we are going to dig a little deeper and discover ways to improve this fashion dilemma

Are Your Clothes Over Worn?

If you have been wearing the same outfits over and over you might start to feel like your look is getting a little stale.

I know that sometimes it seems like I am subconsciously reaching for the same pair of jeans everyday when I have 25 other pairs. 

If you are finding yourself feeling stuck reaching for the same outfit over and over, you may have just gotten too comfortable wearing the same thing. If you wear certain items over and over, they may start to become worn looking, overwashed and faded which will dull your entire outfit. 

The Fix:

It's time to break out of your wardrobe shell and explore some new styles. When this happens, I like to take some time to re-try on everything in my closet. Or at least several pieces that I haven't worn in a while and plan out my weekly wardrobe in advance.

You can then find pieces that are missing in your wardrobe and go shopping for them HERE

Suddenly you'll feel more confident in that items again and maybe even excited to wear those pieces after seeing yourself in them again. I also like to order a new necklace, or accessory to spice up the old outfits. 

You haven’t cleaned out your closet in a while 

If you haven't cleaned out your closet in a while, it's probably time to do it again. If your closet starts to get too cluttered and you can't find anything it's probably time to take some inventory of what you have, want, don't want, and what you need. 

I clean out my closet twice a year. Once for spring/summer and a second time for fall/winter. I highly recommend doing this to stay on top of things. Especially if you are like me and you love to shop. 

I like to use storage bins for my out of season clothing to keep them nice and ready to go for the future season.

You can organize your clothing by season such as: SPRING/SUMMER & FALL/WINTER

How to clean out your closet each season 

• Label your bin for spring/summer or fall/winter
• Decide on if you want to keep, donate or give away an item before placing each one into your bin
• Do the same thing when unpacking your bin for the new season. You may no longer want certain pieces 

Bonus Benefits

Putting away out of season clothes can actually help you to "forget" about what you own and makes it seem like a bunch of brand new stuff when you unpack it all the following season.

It also helps to make more space in your closet allowing you to see what's weather appropriate and it can make getting dressed easier and leave you with more space for bringing in new pieces to love. It can also help you identify what you are missing in your wardrobe.

Owning too many basics

Owning great quality basics is actually the first step and a great foundation for styling several outfit combinations. However, if you only own basics and don't have any statement or fun pieces to throw in the mix, you may start to feel like you have nothing to wear. 

Try adding some fun statement pieces to your next look like these ones HERE 

Do you have several pieces in only one particular color/print? 

Are you attracted to a particular color or print? If you take a look in your closet and you see the same exact colors repeating many times over, you might be naturally attracted to the particular style. 

For example, I had a friend who would only wear black and she would feel uncomfortable to try different colors or patterns. If your closet doesn’t have any variety and lacks flavor in style, your soon to feel like you have nothing to wear. 

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, but if you notice that you are naturally attracted to a certain color or style, decide to go for and try different and new prints as well.

There are so many fun patterns, prints, colors and styles still left to try. I love stripes, animal print, solids, florals, color block and several other patterns available to choose from. Don't be shy, try them all and discover what you love. 

The Fix: Incorporate a variety of styles, prints and textures into your wardrobe rotation. Don't be afraid to mix it up. 

You wear the same outfit over and over 

If you find yourself reaching for the same exact outfit every single day, you may start to feel like you have nothing to wear. And I get it, sometimes we get comfortable wearing something and literally never want to take it off. This is your sign to mix it up. If none of your other clothes excite you anymore, it's time for a shopping spree!

You haven’t gone shopping in a while

If you haven't gone shopping and refreshed your wardrobe in a while, you will likely start to feel like you have nothing to wear. I notice that after I have worn everything in my closet, after a while I start to get bored of the clothes.

The fix: Sometimes adding a new accessory, or jacket is all you need to refresh an older look. 

 The clothes don't fit you anymore

Over time, our bodies naturally change. And that's totally okay! But if you are still trying to wear the same outfit you wore in high-school, you will likely be feeling like you have nothing to wear. Sometimes it can be hard to be honest with ourselves and let certain looks or outfits that we have just outgrow or no longer serve us go. 

The Fix: Let it go and replace the clothing that is no longer serving you 

The season has changed

Living in California my entire life meant that true seasons weren’t something I ever experienced. It never really dropped below 60 in the wintertime, except for at night, sure, but an almost year around sunny 60-90 degree rotation just meant throwing on a cardigan in wintertime and putting it away in late winter.  We would be swimming in the backyard pool by April. IYKYK.

After moving to the Pacific North-West to be closer to family, I discovered "seasons" for the first time and had to quickly adapt. Fashion is something that comes naturally to me, so I didnt struggle much, but it helped me to finally understanding the true meaning of the season- in a fashionable sense. Lol 😉 I mean, I finally understood why people wear those huge gigantic puffer coats. It never seemed necessary to me before. 

If your wardrobe isn't seasonally rounded, you'll be digging through your closet that's full of summer in the middle of winter and feel like you have nothing to wear.

The Fix: Shop for seasonally appropriate clothing

You had a baby or are pregnant?

Did you recently become pregnant or have a baby? This can definitely leave you with a feeling of "I have nothing to wear". When I was pregnant, my body started changing a lot, even before I had a noticeable bump. This made my clothes start to fit kind of funny, or not be as comfortable.

After I had my baby a lot of my clothes didn't fit for a while either. It's been a year since I've had my baby and although I am back to my postpartum weight, still some of my old clothes just don't fit quite right anymore. I am nursing my baby so a lot of my old tops just don't fit me the same right now. I am still going to keep these clothes for when I am done nursing, but for now I have put them all away. 

The Fix: This is common for a lot of new moms. It's totally normal to have a new body after baby. Adjusting your clothes to your new body will help boost your confidence and give you fresh new clothes to wear!

Moved to a new city or state?

Moving to a new city or state can be a big change. But nobody talks about how a lot of times, we have to also change our entire wardrobe to fit the new location. Especially if the environment and weather is completely different. 

The Fix: Asses your environment and figure out what pieces you are missing and let go of some pieces you will no longer be needing. 

Got a new job or going to a new school?

If you just landed a new job, congrats! Thats awesome! Sometimes when starting a new school or a new job, you don't fully know the dress code. It's easy to overthink what to wear in these situations and start feeling like you have nothing to wear. 

The Fix: Take a deep breath and know that it will all be okay! If your dressing for a new job, dress professionally and well on the first day. If you think it might be too casual, don't wear it. You can also call HR and ask about the dress code if possible.  

If you are going to a new school, just remember to be yourself and dress in a way that is naturally your style. Sometimes shopping for a new outfit can make you feel more confident too. 

Bored of your current clothes?

Are you getting bored of everything you own? I sure do get bored of wearing the same outfit and seeing myself in the same clothes all of the time. This is just human nature. This is also why it's important to have a good selection and rotation of clothing to choose from. 

The Fix: I like to put away clothes that are out of season. Out of sight out of mind.

This helps me to forget about the clothes and when the new season rolls around, I feel like the clothes are exciting or new again. I also like to incorporate a few new pieces with old pieces to make old outfits feel fresh.  

My Clothes Have Holes

If your clothes have gotten a hole, you are likely not going to wear them leaving you feeling like you have nothing to wear. But dont worry, there are a couple of easy fixes you can try right away. 

The Fix: If you have a hole in your clothing, you can definitely try to mend it by sewing it back shut. You can also try using fabric glue for smaller holes. This will help give your clothing a second life and keep them going longer. 

If they are not mendable, you can also donate or recycle the clothing and replace them with new ones. 

I am Feeling Uninspired 

Sometimes getting in a fashion rut can leave you feeling like you just have nothing to wear. It's totally normal and this happens to even the most fashionably appointed people from time to time.

There are so many reasons why we might start to feel uninspired from time to time. It might be the weather, your energy levels or a lack of motivation. Sometimes we can feel unmotivated when things get a little boring and mundane. 

Sometimes the best way to get out of the uninspired fashion rut is to actually just try something new.

Go out to a new restaurant, visit a new city, do something you love to do that you haven't in awhile. Doing something fun can help you feel motivated and inspired to get all dolled up again. 

Don't Know How to Put Outfits Together?

Putting good outfits together can be a bit challenging. To some people, putting together outfits just seems to come naturally but If you feel like you struggle putting good outfits together then you'll likely feel like you have nothing to wear. A great way to start is by pulling some inspiration. 

How to put together an outfit:

1. Check the weather 
2. Decide on a focal piece such as a dress or top
3. Next choose a matching jacket or cardigan if the weather calls
4. Pick your accessories, like scarves, jewelry, hats, etc
5. Finish with shoes and a bag

A dress or suit is a great option to wear to a wedding as a guest. If you don't have anything nice to wear to a wedding you might want to consider buying a cute wedding guest dress from HERE or renting one. 

If you have a friend or family member who shares the same size as you, you could try borrowing something. Of course, borrowing may come with stringers attached, so depending on the situation it may be just better or easier to purchase something totally new and all for you.

What to wear when I have nothing to wear?

Start simple to avoid overwhelm. First thing is first. Check the weather to help you choose accordingly. Then you should decide on a focal piece, such as a dress, top or pair of jeans. You can style the rest of your outfit around the focal piece. You can then move on to the next step, which is to match your top with a pair of jeans, then jacket. Add some accessories like jewelry, a scarf or hat. Complete your look with your purse and lastly shoes.

3. Next choose the second part of your outfit such as jeans or jackets, etc.
4. Pick your accessories, like scarves, jewelry, hats, etc
5. Finish with shoes and a bag

WHAT DOES DRESSING CASUAL MEAN? 

Dressing casual doesn’t mean dressing boring or plain, or necessarily wearing sweats either. Dressing casually has a few different meanings which can make it kind of confusing.

Generally speaking, a casual dress code means dressing informally, (not suit and tie ) but still clean and well put together. It can also mean "event appropriate" which can slightly change the "casual" dress code meaning. 

There are few different levels of casual attire such as:

• Casual 
• Smart Casual
• Dressy Casual

Example of casual dress code is a nice cute top, jeans and sneakers. Not necessarily sporty like leggins and T-shirt.

Example of smart casual is basically simple, but lovely and elegant. Like a blazer, jeans and loafers or flats. Maybe go up a notch with fitted pants and a a nice blouse or dress, button down collared shirt, etc. 

Examples of dressy casual can mean a dress, with a blazer coat and high heels. Avoid distressing in jeans and jackets. Dressy casual basically means it's not all the way a formal dress code, just skip wearing jeans and T-shirts. Go for something dressier.

WHEN TO START WEARING WINTER CLOTHES? 

You can start wearing winter clothes as soon as the weather allows it. 

Basically, the best time when you should start wearing winter clothes will depend on a few different things, like where you live and your own personal comfort levels.

So basically, you can start wearing winter clothes when the weather begins to hit those lower temps of 50°F (10°C) or below, or whenever you start to feel uncomfortable and too chilly in your fall clothing.

The weather can also be a bit all over the place so you might want to take into consideration your local temperatures. Different location can affect when you start or stop dressing for winter time too.

In California it can be 70 degrees in February while in New York it will still be 40 degrees. If you are traveling, you definitely need to check up on the weather and opt for layering pieces if your not exactly sure how cold it might feel in your location. 

Anyway, it's always better to be prepared for the cold and have a warm outfit ready to go rather than be caught freezing because you forgot to grab warm clothing on your way out like a jacket.

If you are planning on going out for an outdoor winter date, you definitely want to dress in layers to stay cozy and warm. 

Since there are different types of winter dates you may attend, the appropriate outfit for the occasion is necessary to stay cute and cozy.

I am actually so EXCITED about it. It's not everyday that we get to wear sequins from head to toe, so when the time is right, you know I will be reaching for them.

It's kind of funny because I have been a dress person for as long as I can remember. I would find most jeans to be too stiff, uncomfortable & a lot of times they wouldn’t fit in all the right places. So I backed away from jeans in general and kept down a path of dresses & skirts. Until I discovered Judy Blue Jeans!

But even if you don’t live in a place that's totally frozen all of the time, winter can be a challenge to dress for because you will likely be tempted to choose comfort over style. And I get that, but what If I told you that you could dress stylishly, comfy and warm. Winter also happens to be one of the best seasons for dressing super cute and cozy!

Looking cute and staying warm in wintertime is a lot about layering cute pieces together that create an effortless look.

When you layer your clothing, you give yourself the opportunity be warm and it’s totally possible to do this in a cute way, rather than a bulky or uncomfortable way. You just need to put the right pieces together to form that effortlessly cozy winter look.

Outerwear Outfit Ideas

To be honest, a lot of times I feel that when we think about winter, utility clothing tends to come up more than any other time of year. Utility clothing is amazing and can keep you from getting wet like a raincoat or a windbreaker to protect you from the harsh wind, but a lot of times I do find that they can be plain in style or tend to be really bulky, like puffer coats. 

These types of clothes are definitely fantastic for braving the weather when necessary which have both a time and place. My best tip for utility clothes is to layer them over your cute outfit.

Style Tip:

If your jacket is really bulky, try wearing it with fitted clothes underneath for a more balanced look.

If its raining, wear a long raincoat over your cute outfit, this way when you get into the office or coffee shop you can take it off right away and suddenly you are in the cutest and coziest winter outfit ever! 

Outwear clothing is really helpful for surviving the grocery store parking lot during a storm, but otherwise it's usually something that is coming right off as soon as you are in a controlled environment.

Shopping for wintertime clothes can definitely help you feel more excited about the season and really get into it.

Personally, I used to dread wintertime because it meant putting away all of my favorite summer dresses. But quickly I learned how to put together winter outfits that also incorporate cute winter dresses and skirts. Now I have so many winter go to looks that I look forward to pulling out and wearing every year. 

The main difference between then and now is that I have learned to embrace the season. Winter is my least favorite season of all because its cold and wet and most days when I look out my window I am just feeling uninspired by it all. If you are finding it difficult to dress cute for winter, I recommend first embracing the season. Dressing in cute winter outfits has also helped me to enjoy the season more so and I now have a new found love for it, thanks to good fashion!

Maxi dresses have been a style staple for decades and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Maxi dresses are great because they are so easy to dress up or down and can be worn any time of year.

Whatever you're occasion, there is a maxi dress that perfect for it. Sometimes you just need to add an accessory or two to bring your look to life.

In today's post, I will be answering some of the maxi dress questions I have been getting lately. And If you have a style question, feel free to send me a message.

How to wear a maxi dress if you are short or the dress is too long

There is a couple of genius, not-so-genius ways to wear a maxi dress that has a little too much length.

The first way is to wear a shoe that offers the height you need to keep your dress from dragging all over the floor.

This one is pretty obvious, but you definitely want to wear a heeled shoe that is comfortable. Maxi dresses look great with sandals, especially in the spring, summer, and early fall. Try these shoes with your next too-long maxi for a sweet look.

• Block heel
• Chunky wedge sandals

The second way to wear a maxi dress that has too much length is to tie a knot at the bottom of your dress, to lift it up a bit.

Now, this only works with certain types of maxi dress materials. Don’t try to tie up your dress if it’s woven or made of any kind of crinkle fabric, because it will ruin the dress.

If your dress is made of a slinky, stretchy buttery soft material, you can definitely tie it up to give you the perfect length. I am 5’6 and I find myself doing this all of the time. Sometimes I just like the look, other times I need the dress to be a little shorter.

The third way to wear a maxi dress with a little too much way is to get it hemmed at your local seamstress. I have several maxi dresses that are absolutely gorgeous but have just a tad bit too much length.

As a mom, I mostly wear flat sandals because I am constantly picking up a toddler and cannot always get away with platform shoes. So, I go into my favorite local seamstress and have it hemmed perfectly to my height. When the dress fits properly, I am able more comfortable and able to get around easily. It's a win-win.

Now, I don't get all of my dresses hemmed simply because I do want the extra length on some of those dresses. The dresses maxis are perfect with high heels and look much better with the extra length. It all just depends, but these are the 3 best ways to wear a maxi if you are short or if the dress has too much length.

How to style a long maxi dress

Long maxi dresses are elegant, and lovely and come in a variety of styles. You can find just about anything you want under the sun when it comes to long maxi dresses.

Now styling a long maxi dress can be a little tricky, simply because you don't want to overwhelm your outfit or add too much material and appear unbalanced.

Another great way to style a plain or solid maxi dress is to add a statement piece to it. Try adding a jacket with a pop of color or some unexpected jewelry. You can also style it with a bright contrasting purse to give your outfit a statement.

My favorite time of year to wear a maxi dress is early summer and also at the end of summer when the temperature is still cool in the mornings and evenings and warm in the middle of the day. A maxi dress provides just that extra bit of coverage while still being breezy.

How to wear a maxi dress at work

There are a couple of ways how to style a maxi dress for work. Since maxi dresses are generally modest, it makes them really great for wearing to work or the office. Try styling your maxi dress with a blazer for a professional appearance.

Dressing business casual sure can get boring if you don't change it up from time to time. Mixing it with a maxi dress is a great idea to add a sophisticated and classy look to your wardrobe rotation.

Go for solid maxi dresses, minimal prints, and woven materials. Avoid colorful or large prints as these maxi dresses are better for play than the office.

Choose the right shoes, such as closed-toe sandals, closed-toe heels, or booties. Accessories minimally, such as a pair of dainty earrings and a bracelet to complete your office look.

Generally, when adding a belt to a dress, the dress won’t have a defined waistline, so you would be creating one yourself, or the dress might have a seam running through where your natural waist is, but the dress has a loose fit design. A belt is a perfect addition in this case!

Wearing a maxi dress casually is as good as it gets! You can style your maxi dress with sneakers or flat sandals and a jean jacket for a casually cool look.

This is also a great outfit for going to the park with the kids, long walks, running errands, and grabbing coffee. It's an easy go-to outfit that you can throw on and go.

If you're anything like me, I live in leggings at home but when I want to leave the house I want to change, but not necessarily dress up. I just want to look a bit more put together, and this look is perfectly easy to accomplish. It’s good to change it up every once in a while.

How to wear cardigan without looking frumpy?

The trick here is honestly all about balance. Too many oversized articles of clothing can quickly begin to look frumpy, too much material in one place or another can overwhelm your look and appear frumpy as well.

So the best way to avoid this dilemma is to simply balance out your look. Wear your oversized knit cardigan or chunky knit sweater with fitted bottoms and boots to help balance out your look. If you’re styling a cardigan, try wearing a fitted top with it to keep the outfit even and polished.  

Try a monochromatic combo for a refined look.

My favorite way to wear a cardigan is actually with a dress. I just love how a cozy knit cardigan can take a summery style dress into fall so effortlessly. Another great way to wear a knit cardigan sweater is with a fitted blouse, fitted jeans and a nice pair of booties.

Can you wear a chunky knit sweater with jeans?

Wearing a chunky knit sweater with jeans or any oversized sweater for that matter is actually a really great choice for everyday casual style. Its an effortless cute and casual look that can take you throughout your day comfortably.

Not all blue jeans match with everything. There is a misconception that a good pair of blue jeans will match everything you wear them with, and although you can definitely get away with a lot, not all jeans are the same. 

Try adding olive jeans, black jeans, white jeans, gray jeans & various brown pants into your wardrobe mix for endless style potential.

Blue jeans come in various shades of blue, therefore some won’t match the tops you try to wear them with. There are so many different cuts of jeans to consider as well. Some might pair wonderfully due to the shade of blue, but the cut might not match well and vise versa. 

Try finding both a shade of blue & a jean style that both work well with your chunky knit sweater to complement your outfit.

Putting Outfits Together

The trick is to lay out all of your jeans and sweater on your bed and do a test run. Place your various sweaters next to your various jeans and try to find a color match. Once you have a color match, then try the outfits on and see which styles work best with your sweater.

You can do this with anything and everything in your closet. Once you have a cute outfit together, snap a photo of it to help you remember it in the future.

You can create an album in your phone to look back on whenever you are feeling in a rush, can't think of an outfit combination or just forget what you have. And I totally get it, we’ve all had those days where you just can't figure out what to wear. This little trick has helped me so much!

Whenever I bring something new into my closet, I create a variety of different looks for it using everything I currently have available in my closet. Sometimes I might create outfits and find that I could use a jacket, or scarf that would ultimately complete the look. So I go out and get it. 

But having outfits that are easy and ready to go saved in the back of your mind, or better yet, phone album is a great way to help you put outfits together quickly without having to think about them.

There’s so many wonderful things about fall, and one of my favorite things about fall is fall fashion, of course!

As temperatures start to cool in the mornings and evenings, we start to reach for those cozy layering pieces. That's where the Shacket comes into rotation. 

Today I am going to answer all of you’re Shacket questions.

I get so many emails with questions on a daily basis asking about this so I wanted to have a place for you to reference as needed. But don't be shy, if you have a question about anything, please feel free to reach out to me anytime.

What is a Shacket?

Well, to put it simply a shacket is a combination of a shirt and a jacket and born is the shacket. 

It's really the ultimate layering piece for fall and just about anytime you need an extra layer to keep you nice and cozy.

Are Shackets just a type of Jacket? 

Shackets come in all sorts of styles and fabrics. Some shackets are lightweight yet still heavier than a long sleeve shirt, while other shackets are a thicker medium weight, still being lighter than a full on jacket, making it the ultimate layering piece to have in your closet. 

Shackets are absolutely versatile and come in all kinds of prints, colors and textures as well.

What I love about a good shacket is how easily I can just throw it over so many different types of outfits and suddenly I have a cute and cozy fall or winter look. 

They are also generally designed to be oversized, which makes them, great for layering pieces together. This is great because sometimes fall can be really chilly in the morning and rather warm mid-day.

What to wear with plaid Shacket?

There are honestly so many cute ways to style a plaid shacket. I personally love a good plaid shacket with a solid top and some good jeans.

Depending on the shacket, I also love to pair it with a cute dress when I am going for a more casual vibe. I also like to style my outfit with jewelry like stacking rings to add a feminine touch to my look. 

Since shackets are generally loose fitting, I prefer to pair it with form fitting tops and jeans. It will help to balance out the overall look. 

If there’s too many loose fitting articles of clothing, the outfit can then start to appear frumpy and overwhelming baggy. Here are some outfit ideas with stackers that I am loving.

Are you a fan of plaid? Well then you are in luck! Plaid is one of those prints that doesn’t really ever necessarily go out of style.

It’s a classic print, meaning you can always count on it in your wardrobe as a staple, however plaid is also one of those prints that gains popularity usually in the cooler months. Like fall and winter. You will likely see variations of plaid prints come to life in fall and winter each year.

Are Shackets cruelty free?

Yes, Shackets can be made cruelty free. You just have to know which materials to go for. Shackets are made with various materials in order to accomplish varying textures, weight and style. 

Cruelty free materials include: 

• Acrylic
• Polyester
• Nylon
• Cotton
• Spandex
• Rayon

When purchasing a shacket, make sure to check the materials. If you are concerned about cruelty free materials, avoid shackets containing animal fibers, which are not generally considered to be cruelty free.

Shackets that make a statement

When you style your plaid Shacket, you want to stick with solid colors for the blouse you wear underneath your printed Shacket. This keeps your outfit looking balanced and beautiful. You can go all out when it comes to adding texture, like chunky sweaters and scarves. Play around with various types of tops underneath your shacket with the clothes in your closet and see what variations you can come up with that look good.

I am seriously drooling over these gorgeous aztec and tribal print shackets. I have brought so many cute ones into the boutique this season and the feedback I am getting is amazing. 

There are so many cute shacket styles and outfits. You can wear Shackets in a dressy manner or keep it pretty casual and down to earth. Really, whatever look you are going for, you can accomplish it with the right shacket. 

What size Shacket should I get?

Since Shackets generally have an oversized design, it's actually recommended that you stay true to your usual go-to size to accomplish the look you are going for when styling a shacket.

It's good to check the size chart or item measurements when purchasing a shacket online to make sure that you are getting the correct fit. 

All of my shackets that are "oversized" still technically fit me rather well. They fit well around the shoulders and don't slouch because I am going with my true to size. Even though shackets are sometimes designed to be oversized.

The arm length on shackets can be a little long at times which actually helps to give the "oversized" look by being able to scrunch up the sleeves or roll them up. It's just part of the fun flair of styling a good shacket. 

How to wash Shacket?

The best way to wash a shacket is by hand. You will need to turn the shacket inside out and gently wash it with cold water. If you have a washing machine with a hand-wash setting, you can place your shacket in a mesh bag and place your shacket on the lowest gentle no spin cycle setting with cold water. You will then want to lay your shacket flat to dry, or hang dry for best results.

How to wash Shacket:

1. Turn Shacket inside out
2. Place Shacket in mesh bag
3. Turn washer setting to extra gentle or no spin or hand-wash setting (if you don't have a washing machine that offers these settings, you can wash the shacket by hand. 
4. Use cold water and your favorite detergent 
5. Once the wash is complete lay the shacket flat to dry 
6. To remove excess water, gently press the water out while the shacket is laying flat. Do not wring! 

If you are worried about your washing machine or if you do not have a gentle setting, I recommend truly hand washing the shacket. You can fill a bucket or sink with cool water and small amount of gentle liquid detergent.

Gently wash the shacket by hand. Rinse out the detergent with fresh water and lay flat or hang to dry. To squeeze the excess water out, gently press on the jacket, but do not wring as it can cause damage to the fibers. 

But please, please remember this! Do not place the shacket in the dryer or ring the water out. You won't be too thrilled with the results if you do this. 

Having a good washing machine is so important in helping to take care of our clothes. I recently purchased a new washer and dryer and I love the machine! I actually trust it to wash my clothes gently. I am currently using the Maytag Commercial technology washing machine and its a dream! I love it so much. My clothes always come out so fresh and clean and the gentle setting is actually gentle, which is great. I would have never trusted my old washing machines gentle setting. 

How to style a Shacket for work?

If you are wondering whether you can wear a Shacket to work or the office the answer is yes! Although several shackets generally have a laid back style to them, there are shackets that exist that have a fantastically professional appearance. Shackets are really so versatile and cute! Here are a couple of my favorite ways to style a shacket professionally for work. 

4 Ways to style Shackets for work:

 I love this look for the office. This Tweed shacket is absolutely stunning and can easily replace the everyday blazer for a chic look. I love it paired with A white blouse, blue jeans and kitten heels. 

This tweed Shacket also looks fab with white jeans for the office. 

I love a good solid nude colord shacket. You can wear with just about any color and look put together easily. 

Solid Shackets are great for those morning on the go when you dont have alot of time and you just need something quick to grab to complete your outfit. 

 I love a good plaid Shacket. These shackets are crazy popular right now. I love this black and white plaid shacket paired with a solid white top, black denim and booties.It makes for a stylish and professional look for the office.

The short answer is yes! You can definitely wear a shacket with a dress. I love a good cropped Shacket to pair with a dress. It's actually a really cute look. I have even worn long Shackets with dresses. 

Wearing a shacket with a dress is a great way to dress down your look. Wearing a shacket with a dress is basically like replacing your jean jacket that you would normally wear with that dress. 

Can you wear shacket with joggers? 

A good shacket can be as versatile as you allow it to be. You can definitely wear a shacket with joggers! I love this jogger look for around the holidays. It makes me feel all cozy, warm and comfy. Now all I need is a nice cup of tea and my favorite blog to read! 

This is a look that's great to wear when its brisk out and your going to your yoga or pilates class and you are looking to stay cozy. Wearing joggers with a shacket can make a statement, but in a good way. 

Ways to wear a shacket

There are so many cute ways to wear a Shacket. Honestly, you really can get creative here and have fun with it. I know it can be challenging sometimes to put together outfits with new pieces and old pieces that you didn't necessarily buy to go together. This is why I style everything in the boutique with pieces from the boutique. A lot of the girls who shop with me (in the boutique) usually will just buy the whole outfit because it makes it so much easier to have an outfit that's ready to put on and to go.

Yes, shackets are meant to be oversized, making them perfect for layering during the cooler months and ultimately a must have for the fall and winter months. Shackets are loose fitting which in turn, they generally give off a cute and casual aesthetic.
